Now that I survived cancer, whats next? That is a common question that patients ask after being told NED (no evidence of disease). Life as we know is forever changed after a cancer diagnosis, you have a different take on life that allows you to live your life each day as if it were your last.

Nothing prepares you for what to do afterwards, your life is so filled with doctors, specialists, nurses, test after test you know the drill, then suddenly, its' over. No more visits, no doctors, now what? How do you go back to business as usual after all of that? Truth is, you have to develop a new normal for yourself. You can try to act like nothing has happened but, truth is, in the back of your mind you will always be waiting for a return of your cancer because of fear that it is not over.

You fear that the next time around you may not be as strong as you were the first time around or maybe it will come back more aggressive or what if it comes back and I don't find out in time?
These questions are valid and deserve an answer and the only thing I can say to that is to be "Pro-active"!

Make your scheduled follow-up appointments, if you don't feel well, don't be afraid to call the doctor; better to be safe than sorry. Find a hobby, get back to work, get your mobility back by exercising, power walk or take a class or go back to school or work but, do something that will keep your mind busy. If you feel that yo need to speak with a professional about your feelings, by all means do that, find a group of other survivors who can relate to your experience, but know that you are not alone!
